The renovation of the brand house in full swing, it's unique architecture has become a hot topic of conversation here at SORS., so it isn’t strange that we’ve been spending a lot of time going through our favourite architecture books, which we would like to share with you.

Great architecture is not one thing, and it’s so much more than just beautiful buildings, it’s a language, a reflection of the time we live in and our values as a society and individuals. Like art, architecture should be subjective to the individual. For some, great architecture might be a pre-manufactured German house with a practical layout perfect for raising a family with three young kids. For others, great architecture might be to challenge our perception of what a building is and how we interact with it. Sometimes the seeming impracticality of the architecture is the point of it.

We love to explore the established and the new, it really is the philosophy of our Galerie as well. The reading room therefore includes a great introductory book to contemporary architects, along with our must-have books from pioneers such as Le Corbusier, Zaha Hadid, and Tadao Ando, who was commissioned to renovate the recently opened Bourse de Commerce hosting the Pinault Collection; a must-visit for contemporary art and architecture lovers if ever in Paris!

Utzon Uncovered is another gem that we love, as it relates to our most asked question during the brand house renovation; how to renovate a historical architectural house while staying true to the original vision? In this book, Danish architect Lise Juel shows us just that through a series of pensées by describing her journey restoring the iconic Can Lis.
