Light is all around us. It shapes our understanding of the world through colours. Yet our perception of light is that it has no colour, but through refraction we discover the endless array of colors hidden in light.
It shows this off in a particularly spectacular fashion through the Northern Lights, visible in the winter months in the far North, or like a view through a radio telescope into outer space. This spectacle of nature was an inspiration for the Jan Kath collection Spectrum, as were the myths and fairytales about dancing lights above gloomy moors and dark pine forests. The carpets are filled with swirls of color and cloudlike structures, shapes reminiscent of the glowing cores of meteors or reflections in water, although they remain completely abstract.
