Abstraction. Jan Kath ventures into the abstract world of art with his Artwork collection. Swapping his usual patterns with the unruly feel of abstract art, he creates a series of rugs that despite its seemingly randomness, provides a beautiful and calm focal point for the eye. The Artwork collection makes a beautiful addition to Jan Kath’s body of work.
Rich color pigments, arranged on top of one another, layer by layer like paint on a canvas, form the basis of this collection. Over the course of time the colors eroded, scraped off, and wiped away. Time is the artist behind these works. A touch of white peers through the top layer; the pink underneath shimmers through only very gently. The red tone blazes more clearly elsewhere and sets a bold accent. In the Artwork collection, wool is used to “paint” instead of a brush. What appears to the beholder to be random, has actually been precisely specified by the designer and can be perfectly reproduced by the experienced weavers in the workshops in Kathmandu.
